Vastra launches online store for Ayurveda based clothing

Tvm: Vastra, a global wellness clothing company based out of Washington DC, has launched its online store for an international audience, with a line of apparel and bedding based on Ayurveda. Through its line of men’s and women’s apparel and bed sheets, Vastra plans to promote the concept of achieving wellness through organic clothing that is dyed with only medicinal plants and herbs based on the ancient science of Ayurveda.

The Vastra Project is a collaboration of few individuals whose roots trace back to the region of Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala, India. Vastra also aims to promote awareness among the green-curious and green-conscious public about this breakthrough in the world of natural clothing.

The Vastra team, at the handloom weavers community near Thiruvananthapuram, uses the knowledge passed on from their ancestors in the Kuzhuvila family, some of whom were Ayurvedic physicians, to revive and refine the ancient technique of dyeing clothing to deliver the benefits of medicinal herbs through the skin (known as Ayurvastra), which has been proven by tradition and clinical research.

According to Sri Narayan, the founder of Vastra who worked for over a year to bring the concept to the United States, “The skin is the largest organ in the human body and is used as a gateway in Ayurveda to infuse many medicinal plants and herbs for their beneficial qualities. Clothing dyed with plants and herbs were also used traditionally in Ayurveda for the same purpose. By wearing this type of clothing, as opposed to the toxic, synthetic and chemically-dyed alternatives, we are consciously choosing health. This is why we are sharing Vastra with a new community.”
