Three websites in Kerala Police net for sharing Malayalam movies


Tvm: The Anti Piracy Cell of Kerala Police has registered cases against three websites for uploading and sharing pirated versions of Malayalam movies on their site. These file sharing sites are, and Each of these websites has more than 3 lakh registered users and is popular among Malayalee netizens.

A Police Official said that action was taken against these websites after they refused to stop the illegal activity and remove the uploaded files even after repeated warnings. The owners have been identified and they would be booked soon.
Two weeks back, the Anti Piracy Cell had made an inventory of websites that offer pirated versions of new films online and these three websites were being closely monitored by the Department. “After we intensified action against online piracy, several of these websites went inactive. Most of them removed the contents and our investigation could not make much inroads. But when we intensified our internet patrolling, it was found that these three sites were still functional and were providing downloading options of new movie releases for the users. We have collected technical details and have also made an inventory of the contents which were all Malayalam films”, he added.

Earlier in February this year, the Cell had arrested an MBA student from Trivandrum for uploading some new Malayalam movies on some websites. In March, three persons including a theatre owner were arrested by the Cell in Bangalore as part of a racket involving piracy of new Malayalam movies. They found that special screenings were held in different theatres there to copy or record the films which would later be uploaded on these file sharing websites.
