Vigilance Court verdict on Infopark CEO’s appointment on June 4

Thrissur: The Thrissur Vigilance Court will pronounce its verdict on a petition alleging irregularities in the appointment of Gijo Joseph as the Chief Executive Officer of Infopark, Kochi on June 04, 2012. The hearing on the petition filed by social activist George Vattukulam concluded at the Vigilance Court yesterday. The Court had on November 03, 2011 issued a notice to the Kerala Government’s Law Officer seeking details of Gijo’s appointment.

In his petition, George had alleged that the then Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan, who was also holding the IT portfolio; Sebastian Paul, former MP and the then Additional Chief Secretary, had bypassed norms set by the selection committee to appoint Gijo, Sebastian’s relative, as Infopark CEO.
It may be recalled that Gijo’s appointment was announced on May 10, 2011, at the fag end of the LDF government, with just four days remaining for the Assembly election results, giving scope for speculation that his appointment was politically influenced. Gijo was working with Infosys in Trivandrum as a Group Project Manager. He took on sabbatical from Infosys now.

On October 06, 2011, Government Chief Whip, P C George demanded a vigilance enquiry into Gijo’s appointment as the CEO of Infopark, Kochi. Kishor R Pillai, who is Vice President with UST Global, came first in the selection committee’s list. But he was pushed out of the race to accommodate Gijo, on the grounds that his application was received late even as the minutes of the selection committee showed that all the applications were received within the stipulated time.
