Trivandrum: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will help the burgeoning Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in Kerala adopt and adapt the use of Information Technology to enhance their services and productivity. This was the key take away of a conference – Connect Kerala 2012 ‘IT for SME – Success and Growth’, organised by CII in association with SBT in Thiruvananthapuram.
In his Theme Address, V K Mathews, Chairman, CII Kerala State Council & Executive Chairman, IBS Group said that SMEs should use IT to redefine their process which will enhance their service or product thus helping them earn more and reach new markets.
P H Kurien IAS, Principal Secretary (IT), GoK said that the Government was committed in making Kerala a digital society and the next phase of e-governance projects will encourage the business community to use ICT for B2B and B2C markets. He also commented, “If the MSME sector does not adopt IT, they will loose their competitiveness.”
In his Keynote Address, P Nanda Kumaran, MD, SBT said that SME business in Kerala is spurting but this can be maintained only if MSME become early adopter and adapters of IT in their business. He added that use of payment systems (PoS) and creation of SOPs into the business culture will be a step in this direction.
The conference had two sessions and the first session on ‘IT application’s relevance for SMEs in the current market space’ was chaired by Alex Augustine, Member, CII Kerala State Council & MD, Teknokraaft Info Systems. P Baskar, Head – On-Demand Engineering Solutions, Ramco Systems dwelt on the ‘Economics of on-demand ERP’ for SMEs and S Jyothi Sankar ITS, General Manager, BSNL spoke on ‘Telecom Solutions to fuel Business Growth’. He gave specify examples of how BSNL helps entrepreneurs fuel their growth as using telecom helps them curtail manpower.
The second session on ‘IT Fast Track for SMEs’ was chaired by Alexander Varghese, Convenor, IT & ITES Panel, CII Kerala & Country Head – India, UST Global. Amol Deshpande, Director – Solution Engineering, SAP India gave an insight into ‘Business Software for SME’ which will help SMEs and Prashant Jain, Director – Online Operations, CtrlS Datacenters spoke on ‘Busting the Cloud Net’ for faster IT implementation.
In his valedictory address, G Vijayaraghavan, Member, Kerala State Planning Board said that the government’s objective is to bring down the cost of doing business in Kerala and MSMEs can achieve this by embracing IT across all spheres of their activities. About 100 representatives from different MSME sectors attended this conference.
