UST Global retains Technopark GOAL trophy for second year


Trivandrum: The UST Global football team has been crowned the football champions of Technopark for the second time in a row. The defending champions UST Global Reds overcame tough challenge from Infosys Blacks to retain the prestigious GOAL trophy for the annual football tournament in Technopark, Trivandrum. The third place was won by UST Global Blacks who defeated the 2011 runners up Tata Elxsi.

According to a release from the Company, the finals held at the LNCPE Ground near Technopark on September 15, 2012, was a thrilling affair. The first half was dominated by UST Global and the second half by Infosys. The lone goal came in the first half. A well worked corner between Lal & Ajay resulted in an excellent cross by Ajay at the far post where Abdulrahiman powered in a header, stunning the Infosys supporters. The second half saw Infosys attacking with all their might, but a couple of fine saves by the UST goalkeeper Jeeth and a resilient defence ensured that the Infosys forwards were kept at bay.

Ratheesh from NeST won the top scorer award for the six goals scored by him. Rinu Thomas of UST Global Reds was adjudged the player of the tournament for his all-round performance.

The winners were handed over their trophies and medals by the Syamlal Chanduruthil and Subhash Parameswaran, the senior management of UST Global. Technopark’s annual football tournament, GOAL, is conducted by UST Global, the largest company in Technopark, on weekends over a period of two months.
