Trivandrum: The Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF), a Government of Kerala initiative which is into its sixth season, has signed up with Akshaya to enable online registration of Merchant Establishments at Akshaya e-Centres. The MoU was signed between U V Jose, Director of GKSF and P Bala Kiran IAS, Director of Akshaya at Thiruvananthapuram. GKSF Season 6 starts from December 15, 2012 and concludes by January 31, 2013.
As per the MoU signed with Akshaya, GKSF will use the services of over 2,000 Akshaya centres spread across the State to facilitate online registration. The registration will be done under the supervision of the Logistic agency handling the event. To encourage online registration, a discount of 5% is being offered by GKSF to Merchant Establishment who does their registration online. A target of 10,000 registrations is set for this season. Over 100 Akshaya Centres will also be customised as ‘Logistics Hubs’ to ensure effective distribution of GKSF merchandise and gift / discount coupons.
Minister for Tourism, Shri A P Anil Kumar said, “GKSF targets to create a second shopping season in Kerala after the Onam festival. The online registration facility for Merchant Establishments will help more and more establishments from rural areas to join and participate in the festival. This year, the small shop owners under the General Category would be offered free registration to ensure better and bigger participation.” The Minister also released the new GKSF logo.
