Trivandrum: As part of the World Heart Day celebrations on September 29, KIMS Heartcare and Technopark, Trivandrum has jointly initiated an awareness campaign to promote the need for a healthy heart among the techies in the IT hub. A signature collection campaign is being done in the campus and the campaign has gained momentum with hundreds ‘Pledging for a Healthy Heart’.
In the campaign, a huge outline of a heart is placed and techies can join hands in signing the heart with a red marker. At the end of the campaign there will be a ‘Red Heart’ that will symbolise a Healthy Heart.
The campaign by the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) recommends the need to follow the ABC of Heart care, namely A – Avoid Alcohol, B – Be Active and C – Check up Regularly. According to statement from KIMS, 80% of all heart diseases can be prevented if the ABC of heart care is followed.
The Technopark authorities have joined hands with KIMS in promoting the campaigns. Cardiology related health talks and other activities are also being regularly done in Technopark with the support of various companies. Techies are more prone to Coronary Artery Diseases (CAD) due to the changing live style, food habits, high stress work environment, lack of exercise and use of tobacco and liquor.
As part of the awareness campaign an exhibition relating to ‘Golden Hour’ was inaugurated in KIMS Hospital today. The hospital also conducts regular patient / public education and awareness campaigns through their KIMS Heartcare facebook page (facebook.com/kimsheartcare) with concepts relating to the need for healthy heart.
