Trivandrum: Idea Cellular, the leading mobile operator in Kerala, has formally announced the launch of its 4G LTE services in the State at a press conference here. With this official roll out, Idea’s 4G services are now available in 10 Districts across Kerala.
Addressing the media, Rajat Mukherjee, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular said, “Idea had started 4G LTE services in all four telecom circles across five States in South India including Kerala on December 23, 2015. In less than a month’s time, we have expanded our world-class high-speed services across Kerala covering 18 major towns. Idea is the only operator in Kerala to have the largest quantum of 4G spectrum of 10 MHz in the 1,800 MHz band. Nationwide we plan to expand our 4G services to 750 towns across 10 Telecom circles by June 2016.” He also added that advanced services like Voice over LTE (VoLTE) would be deployed later as and when the device ecosystem is ready.
Vinu Verghese, COO, Kerala Circle, Idea Cellular said, “Idea will be investing Rs. 5,800 crores this fiscal and we plan to cover all 14 Districts in Kerala by March this year. This would mean coverage of 60 out of 63 Taluks in the State. We are the number one mobile operator in Kerala with over 1 crore customers using our 2G and 3G services.”
Shashi Shankar, CMO, Idea Cellular said, “To enable our existing customers to experience 4G services, we have kept the 4G tariff same as that of 3G for both prepaid and postpaid plans. We would be issuing complementary 4G SIM to all our customers. We have also introduced bundled 4G Data, unlimited Voice and digital Content subscription plans. Marking its first foray in the digital space, Idea is launching an assortment of digital content in partnership with leading content aggregators. This includes music, movies, videos and games.”
Idea has rolled out its FDD platform enabled 4G LTE network. The network enables seemless and quick toggle for consumers across Idea’s 2G, 3G and 4G networks, offering good mobile data and voice services. In Kerala Idea is investing heavily on infrastructure and would have 15,500 cell sites by the end of this financial year.
