Trivandrum: As part of supporting the Prime Minister’s Digital India initiatives, public sector telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will roll out 4G services in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode in March 2017.
R Mani ITS, Chief General Manager of Kerala Circle made this announcement while briefing the media in Thiruvananthapuram. The 4G launch will be part of the Phase 8 expansion at a pan-India level.
He also disclosed that the BSNL Kerala circle was the highest profit making circle in India with a net profit of Rs. 658 crores during 2015-16. Kerala has the highest landline customer base with 20.72 lakh customers. In mobile segment, BSNL is the second largest operator in Kerala with 80.5 lakh customers.
Amidst tough competition offered by private operators, BSNL has come up with new offers and plans to increase its customer base. In order to encourage new subscribers and to get back those who have surrendered their landline connection, BSNL has introduced a new landline plan ‘Experience LL 49’. The plan provided subscription at a fixed monthly charge of Rs.49 for the first six months, following which it would be converted into a general plan. Besides offering a free prepaid SIM card, an amount of Rs. 600 will be charged for the instrument and there would be no installation charges.
With effect from August 15, 2016; all calls made on Sundays have been made free. The ‘free to home’ call forwarding facility would enable customers to receive their mobile calls on a BSNL landline in Kerala free of costs.
New Broadband and Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) promotional plans have also been announced for 90 days – Broadband ULD 1091 with 8Mbps speed up to 40 GB and 1 Mbps beyond, FTTH ULD 1045 with 20 Mbps speed up to 50 GB and 1 Mbps beyond, ULD 1395 with 20 Mbps speed up to 75 GB and 1 Mbps beyond in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Palakkad SSAs.
The CGM also mentioned that BSNL Kerala has been meeting the key performance indicator (KPI) parameters set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in terms of quality of service of 2G / 3G mobile network in Thiruvananthapuram.
