BSNL launches State Bank MobiCash e-wallet in Kerala circle


Trivandrum: Public sector telecom giant, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), today announced the launch of its mobile wallet application ‘State Bank MobiCash’ in Kerala circle, in association with State Bank of India (SBI) and its technology partner, Triotech Solutions.

State Bank MobiCash is a prepaid virtual mobile wallet which can be accessed on all types of mobiles, both smartphones and normal feature phones. The mobile wallet facilitates users to carry out banking transcations like Deposit & Withdrawal of money, fund transfer (wallet to wallet, wallet to SBI Bank A/c), mobile recharge (BSNL Prepaid), bill payment (BSNL landline and Postpaid), balance enquiry and mini statement.

Announcing the launch, R Mani ITS, CGM, BSNL Kerala Circle said, “The bill payment and recharge facilities will be initially limited to BSNL only. However, other utility bills like electricity bill, water bill, etc will be introduced in future. Any person without a bank account can also use this service. Users can deposit cash with BSNL retail outlets and can use the amount in their wallet for any service. This feature is unique with MobiCash. We have about 50,000 retailers across Kerala and users can benefit from this network.”

The wallet service is available through Smartphone Application (for Android users & iPhone users) or through USSD shot code (Dial *511#) or through Call or SMS (51516 for BSNL users & 9418399999 for mobile users of other operators).

K Chellamaiah, DGM, SBI Trivandrum said, “With the large network of BSNL and SBI, we will be able to reach across Kerala to market this e-wallet. It will reach the remotest areas of Kerala, in line with the government’s digitisation mission. This wallet will bridge the gap between the urban and rural market and fulfil aspirations across all sections of our society and move India towards a cashless world.”

Mani also added that 230 swipe machines will be installed across BSNL customer service centres to make it convenient for people to use cards for paying bills. “1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots using 4.5G technology will be rolled out across Kerala within a month and this would be beneficial to the data users.”

All senior officials of BSNL and SBI were present on the occasion.
