Kochi to host Kerala’s first WordPress WordCamp on Feb 19

Kochi: The inaugural edition of WordCamp Kochi, an international conference revolving around the WordPress Open Source software, will be held on February 19, 2017, at Kochi. WordCamp Kochi is the first WordCamp to be held in Kerala.

WordCamps are conferences with WordPress as the central theme. WordPress is a free and open source web publishing platform that powers over 27% of all websites in the world. WordCamps are conferences on WordPress, organized by the community of WordPress users, with support from the WordPress Foundation, the US based entity that oversees the affairs of Open-Source WordPress, and its development.

The event is organized by the members of the WordPress Kochi Meet Up Group, along with help from the global WordPress Community. WordCamp Kochi will have talks by reputed speakers and WordPress experts from India covering topics on WordPress development, security and design.

Bigul Malayi, the Lead Organizer of WordCamp Kochi said, “WordCamp Kochi is for everyone who uses WordPress, and for everyone who should use WordPress. Not everyone is familiar with web development, and web programming – which is where WordPress comes into the picture. WordPress makes it easy for even a layman to set up their own website. Through WordCamp Kochi, we aspire to spread awareness about WordPress, by bringing together authors, artists, bloggers, business-owners, consultants, designers, developers, entrepreneurs, marketers, non-profits, photographers, software professionals, and web developers – who use WordPress in their daily life, under one roof.”

According to Nebu John, a co-organizer of WordCamp Kochi, “There is something for everyone, at WordCamp Kochi. The event will have several informative, and entertaining sessions on several topics revolving around WordPress, conducted by WordPress experts. The sessions will be useful for everyone, whether you are a WordPress user, or a WordPress developer.”

Some of the speakers at WordCamp Kochi include Mahangu Weerasinghe of Automattic / WordPress.com and Daphnée Laforest of Human Made.

The organisers are expecting around 300 attendees from all across Kerala. For registration and furthers details of the event, please check out https://2017.kochi.wordcamp.org.

The WordPress Kochi Meet Up Group was started in November 2014 and has over 500 members. The group is working towards translating WordPress to Malayalam.
