BSNL launches International Roaming facility in UAE for prepaid users

Trivandrum: Public sector telecom service provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has launched international roaming facility in the United Arab Emirates for its prepaid customers. This was announced by Dr P T Mathew, Chief General Manager of BSNL Kerala Telecom Circle while addressing a press conference here today.

“The international roaming facility will be beneficial to the large number of expatriates from Kerala and this is being done in association with Etisalat (Emirates Telecommunications Corporation), the multinational UAE based telecommunications services provider. With this rollout, BSNL prepaid customers can seamlessly use their prepaid connections across Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain. We would be extending this facility to other countries soon”, he said. The International roaming facility was earlier allowed for only the postpaid customers of BSNL.

At a function held earlier, a new mobile prepaid ‘Kerala Plan’ was launched. At Rs. 446, the plan with 180 days validity, offers unlimited calls to any network across the country along with 1GB data per day for 84 days. Existing prepaid customers can also migrate to this plan. Two longstanding and loyal customers of BSNL were also felicitated.

BSNL has also announced an upgradation of its minimum broadband speeds with effect from November 01, 2017. All broadband plans with a Fixed Monthly Charge (FMC) of Rs. 675 and above will have a minimum speed of 10 Mbps, and plans with FMC below Rs. 675 would have a minimum pre-FUP speed of 8 Mbps.

“Addressing a long-term demand from our postpaid mobile customers, the free data limit for GSM postpaid plans have been increased”, he added. Postpaid GSM customers can save up to 60% on their FMC by paying the bills in advance. This offer is being implemented from November 01, 2017.

BSNL Kerala Circle crossed one crore GSM customers earlier this month. Currently, the subscriber base stands at 97.8 lakhs prepaid and 2.4 lakhs postpaid customers.
