Trivandrum: It’s often commented in jest that one would find a Malayalee’s Tea Shop even on the Moon. So I am sure you won’t be surprised to know that a team from Kerala is present in the stadiums of Pyeongchang in South Korea for the 2018 Winter Olympics being held from February 9-25.
It is for the first time that the Winter Olympics 2018 events are being live-streamed to give the 360 degrees true VR experience to millions of viewers around the globe and that’s where the Kerala connection comes in. Travancore Analytics (TA), an IT services and software product development company based in Technopark, Trivandrum; is offering VR and Streaming software solution to Winter Olympics 2018.
Travancore Analytics was chosen by Intel Inc., the technology partner for Winter Olympics, to develop Virtual Reality application for Olympics Media Broadcasting on different mobile platforms like GearVR, Occulus, Google DayDream, etc. These applications, available for both iPhones and Android phones, act as the front-ends that provide the ‘in-stadium’ VR experience of Winter Olympics to the viewers. The application is designed to be highly customizable to the specific needs of the broadcaster holding the rights of transmission.
Interacting with Kerala IT News, Harikumar P, CEO of Travancore Analytics said, “Our Company is one of the technology partners for Winter Olympics. This is significant because this technology is being tried for the first time in a live sports event. We are early birds in this technology in India. In fact, we are the only Indian IT company offering such a technological support to an event like Olympics. Unfortunately, the VR streaming is not available in India due to broadcast rights restrictions.
Anwer Sadath, Shony and Salini are the three engineers from TA currently in Pyeongchang, working closely with the Olympics Broadcasting Team to support the flawless operations.
Baas Mannarasala, CTO of TA commented, “We are a creative engineering team implementing specialized solutions in software. We prioritize our attention to the ‘know-why’ as much as on the ‘know-how’. It has been a lot of hard work for the last one year that has taken us to the Winter Olympics Stadium.”
Started in 2007, TA has a development centre in Infopark, Kochi also and works closely with companies from US, Europe, Australia, Japan and India.
