Trivandrum: Public sector telecom service provider, BSNL has launched international roaming facility in Saudi Arabia and Myanmar for its prepaid mobile customers. Dr. P T Mathew, Chief General Manager, Kerala Telecom Circle, BSNL formally launched the service at a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram.
Briefing the media, Dr Mathew said, “The international roaming facility for BSNL prepaid subscribers will prove helpful for the large expatriate population from Kerala in Saudi Arabia. This service is being offered in association with Zain Telecom, a leading telecom operator in that country.”
As part of their mobile network expansion, commissioning of 710 4G BTS, 1050 3G BTS and 150 2G BTS is in progress across Kerala and will be completed by the end of the year. To handle the increasing data traffic in the State, BSNL has installed an International Gateway Router at Ernakulam.
“In the last financial year, we could sustain our leadership across various segments despite severe competition from the private sector. 18 lakhs new mobile connections were issued thus taking the total to 1.05 crore. New STVs, new broadband combo plans and new landline plans with free calls equivalent to Fixed Monthly Charges have been announced recently. FTTH technology capable of providing up to 100 Mbps internet facility to home customers is being planned at all exchanges in the State”, he added.
The winner of the ‘BSNL Tunes’ contest held in association with M/s OnMobile, Sethulakshmi Krishnapilla from Thiruvalla, was handed over the prize by CGM. Dr. Jyothi Sankar, GM (Sales & Marketing – Consumer Mobility); and Yojana Das, GM; were among those present.
