Trivandrum: The Wayanad based Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) has launched a Malayalam farm portal, a web channel and a radio channel. The portal (kasavu.in) was launched by Minister for Agriculture, Shri K P Mohanan at Thiruvananthapuram on June 17, 2013.
In his address, the Minister said that the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s Farm Portal Kasavu will facilitate appropriate and timely knowledge dissemination across the globe. He also lauded the efforts of the University in bringing out the Malayalam Farm Portal with provisions for video streaming and web radio.
The farm portal is intended to create awareness on livestock farming and entrepreneurship among farmers, entrepreneurs and non-resident Keralites. The portal will be used for sharing new technologies and methods being developed by the university with farmers, entrepreneurs and students. The portal in Malayalam would help disseminating information on scientific methods in animal husbandry and new methods and ideas relating to animal sciences.
The portal will also be used by experts to interact with farmers and entrepreneurs on various topics such as food security, scientific ways of animal husbandry, caring of pets and entrepreneurship in agriculture sector.
Minister for Dairy, Shri K C Joseph inaugurated the Regional Training and Research Centre and Livestock Policy and Research Centre of the University at the function attended by K Muraleedharan, MLA; M V Sreyamskumar, MLA and B Ashok, Vice-Chancellor of KVASU, among others.
Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) established in December 2010 as a full-fledged University, offers education, research and extension services in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The Directorate of Entrepreneurship of KVASU has also launched distance learning programmes under technology enabled mode.
