Kochi: The Network for Fish Quality Management and Sustainable Fishing (NETFISH) has signed a MoU with IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited (IKSL) today for sending the NETFISH news over IKSL mobile connections to the fishing community.
Speaking at the function, Dr. Joice V Thomas, Chief Executive, NETFISH said, “Considering the growth in the mobile users, NETFISH has chosen IKSL as the channel partner to reach the fishing community”. NETFISH is a registered society formed under the aegis of Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) with a view to imparting knowledge to the fishing community, fish processing workers, technicians, etc. in fish quality management, conservation of fish resources as well as sustainable fishing.
According to K G Luke, State Manager, IKSL, to empower the fishing community further, IKSL will be moving to community formation based on the customer requirement. IKSL will be starting with community exclusively for fishermen once the sufficient base is reached. NETFISH News on quality management and sustainable fishing is planned initially and will be adding weather forecast, potential fishing zone (PFZ) data, fish price, Fisheries Department news etc in the near future. The community customers will be getting the news exclusively meant for them.
IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited (IKSL) is the joint venture company formed by The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative Ltd (IFFCO)and Bharti Airtel Limited. The joint venture company will harness the power of ICT to add value to the farm sector and empower the rural farmer by giving him access to vital information, which will enhance his livelihood and quality of life. IKSL offers products and services, specifically designed for farmers / fishermen through IFFCO societies in villages across the country. The service includes Green Card Mobile Connections and recharges. The green card connection is given free of cost to the customers and they can start using the connection by recharging with recharge vouchers starting with Rs.10.
Presently the Greencard users are getting 5 free voice calls on farming techniques, weather forecasts, dairy farming, animal husbandry, rural health initiatives, fertilizer availability, market prices of agri produces etc, on a daily basis in Malayalam. The customers also have call back facility to listen the last 5 Messages recorded at any time. They also have dedicated helpline, manned by experts from various fields to derive answers to specific queries related to agriculture and allied subjects.
